The director of research and technology for the Exploration Department of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said the company was planning to initiate explorations for shale oil reserves by the end of the current calendar year to March 20.
According to
NIOC, Mahmoud Hajian stated that seven exploration management research projects
had been approved by NIOC’s Research Council whose implementation would be
initiated by the end of the current calendar year.
The contract
for the second phase of the Omani gas hydrates project, signed a while ago with
the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI), was one of the seven
projects, he added.
The official
said that the results of the first phase of the gas hydrates project indicated
that under the unconventional gas source, there were conventional gas
structures, which in the second phase of the project, the exact volume of gas
and location of wells would be determined. Finally, in the third phase, wells
would be drilled for production to begin, Shana wrote.
Fortunately,
in the first phase of this research project with the University of Tehran’s
Petroleum Research Institute, the existence of shale oil was proven in
Lorestan’s Ghali Kooh.
