Gasoline Production up 7-Folded in 4 Decades

(Sunday, February 10, 2019) 17:28

Gasoline production rose seven-folded over the past four decades after triumph of the Islamic Revolution of Iran in 1979.

Among other four-decade achievements of the Iranian oil industry reference should be made to two-fold increase in the refining capacity of refineries, cutting gas imports, four-fold increase in gasoil production, and a 40-fold increase in exports of major products and production of quality fuels including Euro 4.

In the years following the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the development of refineries was on agenda to prevent marketing of oil and valuable oil products in crude form and without getting refined, IRNA wrote.

As new refineries were built, old refineries were also rebuilt and refurbished, resulting in the accelerated production of gasoline, gasoil and other petroleum products. Iran's oil refining capacity in 1979 was 1,175,000 barrels per day, which is now up to 2.2 million barrels per day.

At the beginning of the Islamic Revolution, 14 million liters of gas was produced daily on the average, which has now reached 105 million liters.

Of course, the daily production record of 105 million liters has just started after the launch of new phases of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery.

By achieving a daily production record of 105 million liters of gasoline, Iran has not only succeeded in stopping gasoline imports but has also the opportunity to export.

In the early years of the Islamic Revolution, daily production of about 24 million liters of gas oil was generated in the country, rising four times a day to 98 million liters during 2017-2018 (the first nine months of the current Iranian year starting on March 21).

With the increase in gasoline production, Iran has become not only self-sufficient in producing this product, but has also become the exporter, shipping 4.1 million liters of gasoline daily from 2017 to 2018 (nine months).

Export of the main products of the country within the 1978-1989 period was zero, but gradually a leap was observed in the export of products began.

The consumption of CNG (compressed natural gas) in the country increased to 20.4 million cubic meters per day from 2.3 million cubic meters per day within the 2005-2007 period.

The amount of CNG prevented burning of 20 million liters of gasoline a day in the country. Fuel quality production in line with the standards of the day has also been taken into consideration in recent years, so that the Euro 4 gasoline production reached 25 million liters in the first half of 2018 from 3.3 million liters in 2013.
