Tehran (Shana) -- Iran has invited the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) head to pay a visit to its giant offshore South Pars gas field.

Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Majid Chegeni on Friday extended the invitation to GECF Secretary-General Mohamed Hamel during a meeting on the sidelines of the 26th International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition – Iran Oil Show 2022 – in Tehran.

Briefing Hamel on the country’s achievements, Chegeni said the Iranian knowledge-based firms have a strong presence in the gas sector, having put in an impressive performance in recent years.

The NIGC chief added it seems GECF has the potential to play the role of a link between its member countries and facilitate their cooperation and form a great network.

Chegeni hailed the GECF statement issued at its recent summit, assuring that it would create an attractive landscape for its members when the words are translated into action.

The achievements of GECF have been mainly ignored, regretted the top Iranian official, blaming lack of follow-up for failure in implementing them in member states.

Hamel, for his part, said the GECF was set up in 2011 with the aim of bringing its members together and exchanging views and experiences.

GECF, he continued, has all the time called for close cooperation between countries and some institutes are now cooperating with the forum.

“We are convinced that technology plays a strategic role in the GECF member states,” he added.

Hamel expressed his gratitude to Iran for inviting him to visit the South Pars field, extending his invitation to Chegeni to pay a visit to the GECF headquarters in Qatar and exchange views on the gas sector's different issues.
