South Pars is the world’s largest gas field located on the
joint border between Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf. Daily gas production
on the Iranian side was 285 million cubic meters in 2013 and Qatar produced 566
mcm, ISNA reported.
Production in the Arab emirate has remained unchanged after
six years but Iran is producing 570 mcm of gas.
Six years ago, the number of wells operating in the common
South Pars field was 110 in Iran and 401 in Qatar. Iran has increased the
number to 252 wells while the Arab neighbor has not done so.
The field is being developed in 24 phases in Iran. Domestic
gas production capacity is over 800 mcm a day. Supplies from South Pars make up
nearly two-thirds of the total.
Director of a project to drill wells at Phase 14 of the SP
gas field said 100,000 meters have been drilled so far in the phase for
completing 14 wells.
Hamidreza Shafiei Makvand said drilling operations are
complete now, and when fully operational the phase will produce 56 million
cubic meters of gas per day, 400 tons of sulfur, 2,800 tons of propane, 75,000
barrels of condensates and 2,550 tons of petrochemical feedstock.
